Medovik is a layer cake popular in countries of the former Soviet Union. The identifying ingredients are honey and smetana (sour cream) or condensed milk.
The cake Napoleon was brought to Russia in the early 19th century after a victory against the French army of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1812. Originally the cake named mille-feuille which means a thousand layers in French. In France, Napoleon always have almond cream, but in Russia could be filled with whipped cream, pastry or custard cream, and even jam or condensed milk.
